"18 minute chocolate cake" is THE best made-from-scratch cake ever! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! Perfect for birthdays too... it's easy to decorate however you please. Perfect choice for that little guy. If you're interested just google that name for the recipe.
K if you are doing the carrot cake use Kim Johnson's recipe - no fail - to die for. BUT the best cake I have ever made is on epcurious.com, german chocolate inside out!
